Savitribai Phule was an Indian reformer and women educationist born on 3rd January 183, in Naigaon in Satara District, Maharashtra. She was a visionary woman who fought for women's education and rights in India.Savitribai Phule was a pioneer of Women's education and empowerment in India. She and her husband, Mahatma Joytirao Phule, contributed a lot to the advancement of women's rights in India. Both Mahatma Joytirao Phule and Savitribai founded the first girl’s school in 1848 in Pune and fought against caste and gender discrimination.
India Post issued a commemorative stamp on Savitribai Phule in 1998.
