2019-01-14 Mon

On 1st march 1939 the post of Ireland (AKA An Post) issued a set of two commemorative stamps to celebrate the 150th Anniversary of the United States Constitution.

The first commemorative postage stamps of Ireland appeared in 1929. At first, the commemorative stamp issues of Ireland were conservative and limited. The stamps only featured the national aspects such as symbols, personalities etc.

However, in March 1939 the first foreign concept featured on the Postage stamps of Ireland was the United States Constitution. Issued to commemorate the 150th anniversary, the stamp design features the Heraldic Eagle of the United States, George Washington, and a Harp.

The stamps were issued with two denominations of 2 pence and 3 pence. The central design depicts the above mentioned symbols. The stamp is inscribed with an inscription in local language at the bottom and the name of the country between the wings of the eagle along with the denomination value at the top.
