Gupta Emperor Kumaragupta I, the son of Chandragupta II and Queen Dhruvadevi, ruled from 415 CE to 455 CE. During his reign, he performed the Ashvamedha yagna to maintain his imperial sovereignty. He issued many beauteous coins after sitting on the throne of the Gupta Empire. He tried experimenting with coinage and issued many types of coins.Kumargupta I issued a gold dinar of the 'Horseman' type, weighing 8.20g. The obverse features king mounted on horse riding right, Brahmi legend around. The reverse features Goddess Lakshmi seated fading left on a wicker stool with lotus in her left hand, feeding fruit to a peacock, Brahmi legend Ajitamahendra in right field.
