Amelia Mary Earhart was an American aviation pioneer and author. She set many records in her life. Amelia Earhart was the first female aviator to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean.

On this day in 1935, the legendary aviator Amelia Earhart made history by completing the first successful solo flight from Hawaii to California.

In the same year, she made another record flight from Los Angeles to Mexico City and from Mexico City to Newark, New Jersey. She finished fifth in the 1935 Bendix Race.

Amelia Mary Earhart wrote best-selling books about her flying experiences and was instrumental in the formation of The Ninety-Nines, an organization for female pilots.
