Anna denomination was continued post-independence, and a new series was introduced with Ashokan capital and Indian motifs on 15 August 1950. This represents the first coinage of republic of India. Anna series was known as pre decimalization series. Anna series was circulation from till 1955.This rhombus shaped Half Anna coin with rounded corner minted in 1955 at Bombay mint weighs 2.92 gram. On the obverse, it depicts the Lion Capital of the Ashoka Pillar in centre. Legend GOVERNMENT OF INDIA around. The reverse depicts Zebu the bull in centre, and HALF ANNA - ??? ??? - 1955 around within circle, a diamond as mint mark below the year. The coin is made up of copper-nickel. Half Anna coins bearing the year 1955 were minted at Bombay only. Coins with the date 1955 are highly sought after by the collectors. They are very scarce.
