Konark Horse Commemorative Stamp

The Konark Temple is also known as the Sun Temple, built by King Narsimhadeva I of the Eastern Ganga Dynasty in 1290 CE.The Konark Temple; is attributed to Hindu God Surya the entire temple; is made in the form of a huge chariot of Sun God with 24 wheels (12 pairs). The wheel of this chariot is the primary attraction of this temple. The wheels of the chariot are also symbolic and interpreted as the 'Sun Dial'.
There are two craved war horses in front of the Southern side of Konark Temple. The stature of the warhorses is about 10 feet long and 7 feet high. This sculpture depicts massive strength and energy cruising down the warrior. The Government of Odisha has made the figure of Warhorse as their Coat of Arms.
